Kendal RUFC’s move away from its home for nearly a century was always going to attract considerable interest and great expectations from the local communities, given the investment in a dedicated new state-of-the-art £8m stadium. 

The new Mintbridge Stadium sits just a stone’s throw from the old ground, but the new facilities are light years ahead of the Club’s historic home. The old ground was historically referred to by Kendal’s supporters as a ‘northern fortress’ and modern incarnation is certainly an imposing and impressive site.

Showman Fabricators designs and creates custom sets and environments, using all kinds of materials and shape-building techniques.

Hanging from the studio ceiling 25 feet up, the servo motors hoist these scenic elements — large “light rings” containing LEDs that shine in multiple colours — on command to specified positions above the studio’s floor. These positions are pre-programmed into programmable logic controllers (PLCs), the brains behind many industrial automation systems. The commands are sent over ethernet, strung up into the ceiling, from the stagehand’s touch-screen operator station at floor level to the motors above.

Hesco manufactures, designs and deploys defence barriers in several countries around the world. It is renowned for its rapidly deployable Concertainer system that is used for both flood control and military fortification worldwide. Camp Bastion, the former British Army headquarters in Afghanistan, was named after the company and its iconic barrier system.

Operating from both the UK and US, and with around 300 staff, the company has customers in various parts of the world, including Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East.

Even the most ardent Arsenal fan would begrudgingly admit that the new 62,062 capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a fine specimen. Still, the Lilywhites needed an IT infrastructure befitting of that status, so in came Real Wireless to make it happen.

The stadium design included provision for all wireless technologies (including 5G when it arrives) as well as PMR for support services, TETRA for emergency services and Wi-Fi – technically architected, supplied and deployed by the club’s official enterprise networking partner, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). It also needed support for satellite.

London has the oldest Metro system in the world and TfL wanted to introduce Wi-Fi on its network to improve customer experience for the millions of people who use it every day.

It was therefore the ideal choice to design and manage the deployment of Wi-Fi access across the Underground network. Fujitsu worked with partners Installation Technology to design and install a solution for ubiquitous access, Virgin Media to provide high capacity Wide Area Network connectivity, and Cisco to supply network access points compliant with the Underground environment.

The home of Bristol City FC and Bristol Rugby Club, Ashton Gate Stadium is the paragon of successful inter-sport ground-sharing.

So, it was decided that every person who enjoys the game, whether they be in the stadium itself, restaurant, bar, or concourse, should have access to unlimited and free Wi-Fi, enhancing the match day experience.

Ashton Gate Stadium worked with a group of partners led by Bristol’s own Zeetta Networks courtesy of a UK Government grant via Innovate UK. Zeetta’s consortium includes Ruckus Wireless for Wi-Fi equipment, provided and installed by another local company, IP-Performance.

Southfield Farm Caravan Park in Somerset decided it was time to embrace ‘glamping’.

In order to do this, the site opened an entirely new pitch area called The Pavilion.

Comprising of 48 luxury pitches, the plan was to offer campers electric and piped gas, individually metered water and - most importantly - free Wi-Fi. To achieve the latter the farm needed a company that could design and deploy a wireless network that could deal with the Wi-Fi challenges synonymous with a holiday park.

The Cavern Club, Liverpool

There aren’t many more famous music venues than the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

Opened as a jazz venue in 1957, it’s now synonymous with the Beatles, who played there from 1961-1963.

Although the venue has since been demolished and rebuilt, it is a top UK destination, with a bar/pub and continued dedication to live music.
